Hippocrates, Father of Medicine: Do No Harm
Hippocrates, the Greek philosopher and scientist taught one underlying principle: to do no harm. It is so important that it became a key part of the Hippocratic Oath taken by people entering the healing profession.
How well do you think that is being adhered to today?
My 13 year old boy has flat feet that turn outwards. Though I’m not a doctor, I believed it related to his spine and legs. No, I was told to go see a podiatrist and the referral was written.
The day arrived and we were ushered in. I’m sitting across from my boy when the doctor walks in, looks at him for less than a minute, and proceeds to tell me he will have to do a complicated surgery immediately. He won’t be able to walk for a year and will have a steel plate for the rest of his life. Right in front of my son!
Do no harm? I was livid.
To cripple a healthy 13 year old boy?
Fortunately I’m not a parent that is cowed by a doctor. He is now doing daily exercises that are addressing the root cause which was his body’s alignment issues.
Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case. People who are normally skeptical at sales presentations are much less so when they are being sold by a doctor. This was a $30,000 procedure (that the insurance would pay for and it doesn’t pay for the much less expensive solution I found).
Look at the training the medical profession receives: it’s all drug intervention and invasive surgeries.
Sometimes this is essential and will save lives, but how many times are other alternatives simply overlooked?
In searching for better answers, I found a rare gem; a place founded on the belief that the body is an amazing self-healing live “mechanism”.
It seems archane: the idea that if you will give the body all the tools and nutrition it needs and stop overworking it while it’s healing - it will go into high gear.
Named after the father of medicine, the Hippocrates Health Institute truly believes and practices “do no harm” as it teaches people how to create their own healing.
To me, the experience I had at Hippocrates Institute was a taste of heaven. It was so uniquely different.
It seems like a miracle when the body goes into healing - from all manner of conditions: high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer and tumors.
